A Guide to Designing a Logo
Do you want to design a fantastic logo for your business? Do you want your customers to be wowed by your branding? Your logo is the first thing they will see, and it says a lot about your brand and business. Read on to discover how to create an awesome logo and show your business to potential clients.
Why is my logo important?
It’s important because it’s the first piece of branding a potential customer sees. The logo is what makes the first impression on a customer and stays with them the longest. If you connect the logo with the customer, they’re more likely to buy your product or service and invest in your business.
Do your research
Get to know your business. Think about what you’re trying to sell. Ask yourself what product or service you’re aiming to deliver to people. Ask why you’re trying to sell this. Why do people want this? Your answers to these questions will help you think about what type of logo to design. Should it be fun, serious, or abstract? Get to know your business, and the answers will come.
Start with sketches
Sketching is the best way to start designing your logo. Quick ideas, shapes, and patterns are the best way to start drawing a logo. With just a pencil and a sketchpad, you have the freedom to draw whatever you like. Stay away from computers or tablets. Maintain a free mind which can draw whatever it desires. You will have original and better ideas to create the perfect logo for your business.
What program should I use?
Adobe Illustrator remains the industry standard tool for designing and drawing. It’s the most used software among freelancers and design agencies for everything from illustration to poster design, icons, and, of course, designing logos. It’s a powerful, feature-rich piece software package.
Adobe Illustrator involves an often rather costly monthly subscription. If your budget is tight, then Illustrator’s main rival, Affinity Designer, is a good alternative for a surprisingly affordable one-off price. It boasts advanced features comparable to Illustrator, and it’s increasingly used in the design industry.
Colour theory
The colour of your logo can reveal a lot about your brand. Red can tell your brand is fast-paced and exciting. Blue may show your business is calm and tranquil. Green implies your brand is environmentally or nature orientated. Consider what your brand is trying to portray and use fitting colours for the customer.
Extra considerations
Ensure your logo is relevant to your business’ message. If it’s for children, it can be fun and simple. If your target market is business people, make it serious and professional.
Create a remarkable design. Be bold, but make it simple. Complicated logos aren’t as eye-catching or memorable as simple ones.
Finally, be unique! Stand out from the crowd, be original, and believe in your logo! Bring something new to the table!
