8 Graphic Design Trends in 2021
2021 is looking bright and colourful. Experts are expecting the pandemic to at least become controllable, and the world almost feels like it’s coming together. Because of this, graphic design is looking just as chaotically beautiful as we are, with bright colours, imposing fonts and an endless amount of creativity.
We remember when The Hunger Games was the most dystopian world we could imagine. Then came The Handmaid’s Tale and the 2020 pandemic! We’re seeing a lot of end-of-the-world tropes this year, like red and pink skies, killer androids and masks ranging from medical to gas.
Who says words need to be legible? Oversized fonts allow the beauty of letters to stand out and catch readers’ attention.
Surrealism Meets Still Life
Think Salvador Dali meets 2021. Surreal angles and uncommon patterns are combined with bright colours and odd object combinations to show pure imagination.
Contrasting Colour Combos
Purple and yellow or orange and blue; contrasting colour palettes make for memorable graphics that are sure to stick in anyone’s mind.
Fan of the Victorian era, florals and Gothic death metal? Maximalism demands you put it all together to express yourself with bold combinations of what makes you, you.
Metal Meets Earth
Metals in the wilderness aren’t just for car commercials. More and more companies are putting sleek, futuristic, metal products against natural backgrounds to really make their products pop.
If you’re like me, you have piles of just… stuff… from books to photos, my house is a landmine of organised piles. That trend has gathered steam in the graphic design world, with more and more designers stacking images and text on top of each other for an interactive user experience.
We’ve all punctuated with emojis, but what about pictures? This trend allows designers to insert engaging, custom photography to create sophisticate stories that are sure to wow.
Let 2021 be the year you take your graphic design game to the next level. Which trends do you see yourself using?
